Wedding reception band

Questions and Answers

Looking for a Ceilidh band for a wedding reception in Edinburgh. Any Recommendations?

Q) Hiya, I am planning my wedding reception on 17th May 2008 in Uphall (near Livingston) and I really need to find a decent Ceilidh band. We're looking for an all night Ceilidh (3-4 hours with breaks) that have a good caller since there will be a lot of first timers there. It's a small venue, so we're looking for a 3 or 4 piece band at most, that can play fit for a hootenany and put on some background music in the breaks. Does anyone out there have any recommendations? Did you have a good band at your wedding? Are you in a band and looking for business? I look forward to your answers! :o)

A) ring the local pubs and they'll know plenty of local talent but as for 3-4 hours of ceilidh, i love the music but not everyone else does, so if may be a good idea to have a disco as a back up, you'll soon know from the reaction of the party if you will have to use it. by the way i had a band followed by a disco at my wedding and it went down well with everyone.

A) Try your local Craig's List

Band or DJ at wedding reception?

A) It really depends on what you want...but my wedding wouldn't have been complete without live music. Then again, we were married in the woods and I don't think we could have provided a DJ with the power he needed. Also, my husband is a musician and one of the two things he cared about at all was making sure there was live music. A live, acoustic band was perfect for us. Some people honestly prefer pre-recorded things and hits rather than what the band happens to play. If there's one style of music that will make you happy for the day, then live music is a good bet. If you want lots of different styles, it's better to get a DJ with a varied collection. So consider what sort of music you want to hear, how varied a playlist you need, and what power you have available. Go from there. I'm sure you'll figure out what works best for you.

hi I'm looking for a HIM tribute band, for a friends wedding reception can anyone help, real answers please!

A) I love that band. Try finding local bands in the area and ask them to learn some of their songs and see if they perform them okay. I doubt you'll find an actual tribute band for them as their kind of new and not really that popular in the US. (If you are in the US) Some of the local bands will. Some may suck though. We hired a local band to play rolling stones songs. And although they were nothing like the original they still did well. Local bands will just be glad to have a paying gig and will try and do their best probably.

good music for wedding reception?

Q) My fiance and I are making a CD up to be played at our wedding reception. It's being played in the break of our ceiliah band. So we need an hour of some dancing music/a few romantic songs. We have some good ideas, anyone out there with any reccomendations? thanks xx

A) bat out of hell Meat loaf

cost of hiring a cover band?

Q) Does anyone know the rough cost of hiring a cover band to play rock / pop for a wedding reception? It's in the surrey /london area of the UK if that helps. Thanks

A) It would depend on the band. It would range from anywhere between £150.00 to £900.00. It all depends on the quality of the band and how long they have to play for.

Creative Unusual Wedding Favours?

Q) I am getting married in Jamaica, and interested in some ideas for wedding favours. As our guest will be spending over £1000 to come to our wedding we want to give them wedding favours that they can keep and use! Besides the wedding reception will be having a BBQ on the beach with a steel band to thank them all for coming, which is costing an extra £800, so I wasn't looking to spend a great deal of money on the favours. Any ideas that tie in with an exotic beach wedding would be great or something unique or unusual would be helpful. We would also need favours for children, maybe something to keep them occupied and that they can play with?! Any comments on wedding favours that you found the best and worst from weddings you have attend would also be very useful. Thanks!x (All the answers to this question before helped me loads, but I have accidently deleted the question. Thanks for all those who answered before!)

A) I used a place on the web to get my favors. They had lots of great ideas. I had to email them because i dint know what i wanted for sure and they came up with a really great, personal ideas for me. I suggest looking at their stuff or emailing them like we did. www.customweddingsolutions.com

wedding reception band... no vocalist...?

Q) The band at my wedding is frickin' awesome. They are a 13-piece big band set with trumpets, trombones, saxes, a drum set, piano, bass guitar and guitar. But there will be no singer. What do you think about that? I totally hate cheesy "wedding singers" but do you think an instrument-only band will be fun enough? The band will be playing jazz, swing, big-band standards, rock, and some top 40's. I'm not old, I'm 22, but I just appreciate good music. Anyway, thanks for your input. Please no rude comments; constructive critisism is openly welcome. :)

A) As long as the music is good people may not mind there is no singer. I wouldn't as long as it was a nice atmosphere.

My fiance asked me to pick a band for the wedding reception?

Q) And she wants me to keep it a surprise. The only band I could find was a mountain blue grass band. I hope she likes it.

A) Actually bluegrass is really fun to dance to. Play some at home (a CD) and see how she reacts to it....if she's like, "what the hell is this??" then maybe consider booking something else...but if she likes it, no worries!!

Hiring a Live Band for our wedding reception-Prices-??

Q) We are planning on getting a live band for our wedding reception to play for about 45 minutes. They are just getting started and did not quote us a price, but said they would take what we could give them. There are 4 band members and we are on a tight budget and we live in TN. What would be a good amount to pay them or do you have any ideas on this. Thanks:-)

A) I would say at least $200.00, $50 per person...

Band for wedding reception.?

Q) For those that have been to a wedding reception featuring a "Big Band" style of band...did the guests enjoy the entertainment choice and swing dance the night away? We are considering this type of band for our reception as something different from a DJ.

A) I think that is a wonderful idea!

How much does it cost to hire a band for a wedding reception?

Q) To make it more specific, a competent, professional level band, not an amateur band, minimum 4 piece, but obviously not a headlining act. Just wanted a ballpark figure.

A) It really depends on the band. So there is no real answer here. I'll tell you what we did though. My husband and I (my 2nd marriage so daddy wasn't paying and we had to keep the $$$ low), we used to go to this hotel bar as they always had bands there. There was a band that wasn't well known but we enjoyed they music. When the evening was over, we went up and asked them if they would do our wedding and they did!! It wasn't too expensive (I can't remember - a long time ago) but you want to hear them too and see what type of music. You won't want like a hard rock band at a wedding - regarless of if you like hard rock or not. The reception is more of a thank you to your guests for coming to share the best moment of your life (except child birth really is the BEST moment). You want to make sure the band is going to be enjoyed by all who are there. Check out some night spots in your town.

I am looking for a good affordable live band or DJ for my wedding reception in Nashville TN.?

Q) My fiance and I have recently moved to TN from Nebraska and are planning a small wedding here. We are on a tight buget and want to look into getting a live band at a VERY affordable rate. Please Help!!!

A) I'm looking into getting a band myself for our wedding reception, and they seem to run a bit more than a DJ. However, I like the idea of live music, so to me it's worth the extra money. In Nashville it seems like you shouldn't have any problems finding some talented musicians! Try www.gigmasters.com. I've found a few great bands there in my town that do weddings, ranging in price. You might also want to look in a local entertainment guide for live shows--either go to the ones that sound like something you'd enjoy and if you like them, ask if they do weddings, or save time and go directly to their webpage...they should have sound samples for you to listen to. Good luck!

I am having a noon wedding and was told that I cant have dancing and a band play at the reception.?

Q) According to a person that will remain nameless (not anyone on the grooms side) I was told that etiquette says that you can only dance at evening weddings. I love to dance and want to be able to dance with my new husband for the first time and also my father. The time of the wedding and reception can not be changed because we have to catch a plane immediatly after the reception. So my question is how current is this rule and does any one know where it came from so I can disreguard it. Also if anyone does not know where it came from let me know of people that had a noon wedding and still had a band and dancing. ps. dont assume anything maybe the person that said no band and no dancing is paying for the wedding and not me.

A) the person who told you this is full of crap...it's your wedding and you can create whatever atmosphere you want...

Is normal to have a band and a DJ at the wedding/reception?

Q) We are having our wedding and reception at the same place and I was wondering if it is normal to have both a DJ and a band for such an occasion?

A) Most only have one or the other.

anyone have any recs for Vietnamese/American band for Houston wedding reception?

A) sorry I am from N.Y. Try craigslist.org in Houston and look it up under event services. Good luck

A) i'd prefer a dj....everyone of every age can enjoy that one and he can play romantic music also.
